MARU: Chapter Two
I gasped as I broke the surface, shaking my head to brush the seawater from my eyes. I looked to the east, my way illuminated by the two moons. Swimming toward the islands, I disturbed a small brood of sea dragons. The lead male, , disappeared into the water only to surface beside me; surveying me with an eye as large as my head. I stroked his muzzle, whispering my name as I did so. As he returned to his family I smiled; he knew who I was and why I swam to the mountain and back every night. He would guard my way from other, less friendly predators.
